Bank Achieves Traceability, Automation with Test Solution

Emirates NBD is a leading banking group in the Middle East with more than 8,000 employees and assets totaling AED 334.8 billion (US$91 billion). The bank operates across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, Africa, Europe, and Asia, providing corporate, retail, Islamic, and investment banking services. 

The bank was spending excessive time manually testing its Finacle core banking solution. Their existing regression testing tool did not support the applet technology used by Finacle, making it difficult to automate testing. Additionally, the bank faced: 

• Lack of performance testing capability.
• No end-to-end traceability within test processes.
• Manual testing burden on the team and business users.
• Inefficient consolidation of UNIX and Windows-based testing tools. 

To address these challenges, Emirates NBD partnered with Testhouse, a Microsoft partner, to develop an automated regression testing solution for Finacle. The bank also expanded the project to include a performance test solution for its Siebel CRM system. 

Key implementations included: 

• Adoption of Microsoft Visual Studio for automated testing. 
• Integration of Microsoft Team Foundation Server for streamlined reporting, defect management, and source code control. 
• Identification of 562 critical Finacle menu structures for automated scripting. 
• Full application lifecycle management (ALM) capabilities. 

By implementing an automated testing solution, Emirates NBD achieved:

Streamlined Reporting – Centralized test results within Team Foundation Server for better project tracking.
Enhanced Traceability – Improved visibility into testing cycles and defect management.
Better Alignment of Teams – Consolidation of UNIX and Windows-based tools for improved efficiency.
